For the 2nd Tokyo BD Festival, held with the support of Dargaud-Lombard, acclaimed comics artist José-Luis Munuera will be joining the event!

Born in Spain, José-Luis Munuera is a renowned comic book artist who has been a major figure in the French-language comics world for many years. He has worked on several popular series, including Spirou and Fantasio, Zorglub, and Les Campbell, captivating readers with his dynamic artwork and expressive storytelling.

He is also well known in Japan for creating the comic book adaptation of Lupin III, a work that left a lasting impression on Japanese readers.

José Luis Munuera (1972) began his career in 1996 alongside Joann Sfar, with whom, starting in 1999, he created the series “Merlin” (Dargaud), among others. With Jean-David Morvan, he collaborated on numerous works for various publishers during the first decade of the century, notably on the series “Spirou et Fantasio” (Dupuis) for four albums (2004-2008) and “Nävis” (Delcourt, 2004-2009). In 2009, he created “Le Signe de la Lune” with Enrique Bonet, then, starting in 2011, he signed the diptych “Fraternity” with Juan Díaz Canales and the four albums of the series “Sortilèges” with Jean Dufaux, all published by Dargaud. During this period, he began writing his own albums, which led to the series “Les Campbell” (Dupuis, 2014-2018) and “Zorglub” (Dupuis, 2017-2019). In collaboration with Béka, he created the album “L’envoyé spécial” from the series “Les Tuniques Bleues” (Dupuis, 2020) and three albums of “Les Cœurs de Ferraille” (Dupuis, 2022-2024). Since 2021, he has been adapting, handling both the script and the drawing, the classics “Bartleby, the Scrivener” by Melville, “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, “Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens” by J. M. Barrie, and “The Man Who Could Work Miracles” by H. G. Wells, all published by Dargaud. At Le Lombard, he will publish his adaptation of “Son odeur après la pluie” by Cédric Sapin-Defour (2025). Also with Le Lombard, “La Cours du Siècle” (2023) and “Woodstock 69: Le Concert du Siècle” (2026) will be released, alongside Kid Toussaint, a collaborator with whom he also orchestrates “Lupin III: La Merveille” for the Kana Classics collection (Kana, 2026).
