(ロリータ・セシャン)

French author and illustrator Lolita Séchan published her first children’s book, Les cendres de maman (Mother’s Ashes), in 2006 while living in Montreal. After returning to France, she went on to create several humorous works inspired by childhood and family life, including Todo Loco and Marshmalone. In 2016, she published her first graphic novel, Les Brumes de Sapa (The Mists of Sapa, Delcourt), drawing on her own travels and the relationships she developed with young women from different cultural backgrounds. A new edition, expanded with an additional section co-written with Lo Thi Gom, a Hmong woman she met during this journey, was released in 2024.
At the same time, she developed the children’s series centered on the mole family known as the “Bilobas.” Her picture book Caché ou pas, j’arrive! (Ready or Not, Here I Come!), created with Camille Jourdy (Actes Sud, 2019), received the prestigious Bologna Ragazzi Award at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2021. In 2019, while in residence at the invitation of the city of Saint-Gratien, she created a seven-meter mural inspired by her mother’s childhood memories. In 2022, the Angoulême International Comics Festival devoted an exhibition to her collaborative work with Camille Jourdy.
In 2024, to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the career of her father, the singer Renaud, she collaborated with Erwann Lereule on a commemorative book project. She also took part in the production of a documentary with Tancrède Ramonet and contributed to the conception of a series of concerts at the Zénith in Paris. She is currently working on a new graphic novel for young adults centered on the Biloba family, as well as its feature-length animated film adaptation.
