Matis Montes grew up in the Val-de-Marne region of France, where he devoted himself passionately to judo for thirteen years while also studying at a conservatory for eleven years. He later turned to animation, training at several prestigious institutions, including Gobelins, before beginning his professional career as a storyboard artist.

Alongside this work, he explored comics and manga as a way to pursue a more personal and creative form of expression. This led him to create his first manga series, Ceinture Noire (Black Belt), in which he draws on both his experience in judo and his strong sense of visual storytelling.
