Here is the program for the various round tables at the Tokyo BD Festival, which will be held from Saturday 1 November 2025 to Sunday 2 November 2025. Reservations can be made starting next Saturday on the specialised website Peatix. Reservations for the various author signing sessions can also be made on Peatix. The signing schedule is currently being finalised. We kindly ask for your patience as we work to complete it.

BD, manga and animation: connections between mediums

ERIC HERENGUEL(エリック・エランゲル)

French illustrator. In his flagship series, ‘The Kong Crew,’ he develops an original story combining a dystopian vision of the world with meticulous visuals, set against the backdrop of a fictional story in which King Kong emerges victorious. His bold universe and refined drawings are highly appreciated internationally and have earned him a large audience, mainly in Europe and the United States.

りんたろう

An animation director who has been active since the early days of Japanese animation. He began his career as a director with Tezuka Osamu's ‘Astro Boy’ and went on to direct numerous masterpieces such as ‘Galaxy Express 999’ and ‘Metropolis’. His directing style, which combines a grandiose worldview with subtle character portrayals, is highly regarded and has had a considerable influence on animation culture in Japan and abroad.

After studying applied arts in Paris, she enrolled at the Gobelins animation school. During her studies, she worked as a freelancer for French and Japanese animation studios. ‘Yon’, published by Dargaud's youth label Combo, is Camille's first manga, in which she makes full use of the techniques of expression she acquired in the field of animation.

Comic female heroes of 2025

Born in 1969 in Shimane Prefecture. She began her career as a manga artist in 1992 in Wani Magazine. She is the author of numerous works, including ‘Hirake Koma!’ (8 volumes), "Hirake Koma! Return‘ (2 volumes, both published by Kodansha), ’Watashi no Kanojo‘ (2 volumes, published by Futabasha), ’Good Night" (2 volumes currently on sale), Sukunahikona (4 volumes) and Sayonara Midori-chan (1 volume, all 3 works published by Shodensha). Ball and Chain Volume 4 (Magazine House) is scheduled for release on Friday, 3 October 2025.

A young Belgian illustrator. In her first work, ‘Ne m'oublie pas’ (Don't forget me), she delicately depicts memory, loss and family ties through the journey of a grandmother with dementia and her granddaughter. This colour graphic novel was highly acclaimed and won several comic book awards, including the France Culture Student Comic Book Award, the Fnac Comic Book Award, the Babylio Award and the Victor Rossel Comic Book Award.

An illustrator originally from Vienna. Her major work, ‘Today is the Last Day of My Life’, is an autobiographical graphic novel depicting the harrowing journey she experienced at the age of 17. This work, which deals candidly with sexuality, violence and the desire for freedom, has been internationally acclaimed. Translated into 11 languages, it has won numerous comic book awards, including the Best New Talent Award at the Angoulême International Comics Festival and the Max&Moritz Award.

Manga made by the French, bande dessinée made by the Japanese: is the publishing world changing?

Ki-oon is an independent French publishing house specialising in comic books, with its head office located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. In addition to translating and publishing Japanese manga, it has established a production centre in Tokyo and is also dedicated to designing and publishing original works in collaboration with Japanese authors. It aims to create works that transcend linguistic and cultural barriers, and strives to spread a new form of comic book expression originating in France throughout the world.

The editorial department of Morning, published by Kodansha, is an editorial team that discovers national and international talent and seeks out manga expressions that transcend genres and borders. It covers a wide range of themes, from social works to experimental works, while respecting the personalities of the authors and creating new points of contact with readers. Under the motto ‘Manga without borders,’ it aims to create stories that resonate around the world.

Toutlemonde Production is a company that serves as a bridge between Japan and Europe in the field of comics, manga and animation, overcoming language and cultural barriers. Through various activities such as translation and publishing, co-production and event organisation, it connects creators and readers from both regions, promoting mutual understanding and creative exchange.

A cartoonist and illustrator originally from France. His major work, ‘Ghost Money’, was highly acclaimed for its meticulous depictions of the politics and economics of contemporary society. Furthermore, in ‘Mondo Reverso’, he developed an innovative Western incorporating a gender perspective, attracting the attention of critics and readers alike.

Editions Caurette is an independent French publishing house run by Jean-Christophe Caurette. It collaborates with world-renowned artists to publish high-quality limited edition sketchbooks and art books. Its encounter with the famous South Korean illustrator Kim Jung Gi marked its entry into the world of art book publishing.

Mangaka. Born in Tokyo in 1975. He made his debut in 2010 with the publication of ‘Marie of the Forest’ in the September issue of Comic Beam magazine. His major works include ‘Kafka's Castle and Three Other Stories,’ ‘Serii,’ and ‘Firefly/1984.’ He is also the author of ‘My Chronicles with Nobuhiko Obayashi,’ which recounts his daily life with his stepfather, director Nobuhiko Obayashi.

French cartoonist. His major work, ‘Peau d'homme’ (Man's Skin), which addresses the themes of sexuality and identity through a medieval story, was very well received by both critics and the public. His style is characterised by delicate lines and a humorous tone, which allow him to skilfully sublimate social themes in his comic strips.

ガエル・ジェニエ(Gaëlle Geniller)

A comic book author from France. In her major works, Les Fleurs de grand frère and Le Jardin, Paris, she delicately depicts self-acceptance and gender diversity, captivating her readers with her poetic vision of the world and soft colours. Although young, she is already recognised on the international scene.
