On 1 and 2 November 2025, Radislav Stonar's School of Applied Arts (Sutnarka) will be attending the Tokyo Comic Festival as a guest of the Czech Centre and the University of West Bohemia. Come and see them at the Czech Centre Tokyo stand!

Czech Comics from Sutnarka

Václav Šlajch, Czech comic book artist and pedagogue, will present comics created within his Studio of Media Illustration at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art. He will introduce works by both students, graduates and faculty members, highlighting their noteworthy publications. The presentation will also focus on two books about everyday life in Japan: Iogi and Hikobae. Both of these critically acclaimed titles were published in Japanese and aim to show that ordinary life - far from Tokyo’s robots and tourist culture- can be equally engaging, poetic, and worthy of depiction through the medium of comics. The presentation will be delivered with support from Czech Centre Tokyo.

Václav Šlajch（ヴァーツラフ・シュライフ）
Czech comic book author. He is known as part of the ‘generation Zero - new wave of Czech comics' and won the Muriel Award, an important prize for Czech comics, multiple times. In 2021 awarded with Japan International Maga Award. He teaches at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Arts and Design at the University of West Bohemia. In 2019, he spent six months at Musashino Art University and held a solo exhibition of his oil paintings created in Japan, entitled ‘Unleashed in Tokyo’, at the Musahino Fine Art Lab gallery and Czech Centre in Tokyo.

Presentation of their work on Sunday 2nd, between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., in the auditorium (free admission) in ‘Les rencontres de la BD mondiale’ (World Comic Book Encounters).
