Mateusz Urbanowicz at the Tokyo BD Festival!
From Saturday, 1 November 2025 to Sunday, 2 November 2025, illustrator MATEUSZ URBANOWICZ will participate in the Tokyo Comic Festival as a guest of the Polish Institute in Tokyo. His works, which have been highly acclaimed in Japan in his illustration book ‘Tokyo Storefronts,’ are known for their unique vision that delicately depicts the architecture, memory, and atmosphere of the city.

MATEUSZ URBANOWICZ
(マテウシュ・ウルバノヴィチ)

Born in Poland in 1986. After studying manga and animation at Kobe University of Art and Design, he joined the animation studio Comix Wave Films in 2013 after graduating. He has worked on the sets of numerous films, including Hana and Alice and Your Name.
Since 2017, he has been working as a freelancer and is involved in various fields beyond set design. In April 2018, he published the art book Tokyo Mise-gamae: Works of Mateusz Urbanowicz (Tokyo Storefronts). In June 2018, he directed, wrote the screenplay for, and designed the sets for the web animation Susume, Karolina. In September 2019, he published the art book "Tokyo Yako: Works of Mateusz Urbanowicz II". In August 2022, he published the illustration collection ‘Okuradashi 2010-2021’. He is active in various fields such as painting, animation set design, original comics, illustration series and video production.
